Snare rudiments, exercises with accented strokes
Introduction to the video drum lesson: Accents 1
The sheet of this lesson dedicated to snare rudiments contains exercises on the snare drum to learn how to play accents.
Dynamics and accents are basic in the study of every musical instrument.
In percussion instruments the control of power and volume of the strokes helps to create a colourful and varied style,
and often a drummer's style is recognizable just by his sound and his choice of accents.
To play properly an accented stroke you have to raise the stick, starting from an higher point to give more power; the higher the stick, the faster the stroke.
The first exercises with single strokes in the drum sheet of this lesson alternate right hand and left hand accents of eights;
after you have managed them repeat the exercises one after the other.
